Drive Cost

iOS app · Fuel & expense tracking

Our own iOS app, shipped and live on the App Store. Drive Cost tracks what a car actually costs to run: fuel logged in seconds, efficiency and cost per kilometre worked out for you, and servicing that reminds you before it is overdue.

The challenge

Almost nobody knows what their car really costs. Fuel receipts get thrown away, mileage is guessed at, and servicing is remembered late. The people who do track it end up maintaining a spreadsheet, which is tedious enough that most give it up within a couple of months, and a household running more than one car has no single place to see any of it.

The solution

We made logging fast enough to actually keep doing. A fuel entry auto-fills from your previous ones, and the app works out litres, efficiency and cost per kilometre from the odometer reading rather than asking you. From there it charts efficiency and spend over time by date, month or year, tracks oil, filters and fluids with reminders set by distance or date, and lets a household share vehicles so entries stay in sync between family members. Data goes in and out by CSV, so nothing is trapped in the app.
