Free Google Gemini for Pakistani Students: What You Get and How to Claim It

Eligible students in Pakistan can get Google AI Plus free for 12 months by claiming the offer at one.google.com/ai-student. Google published the offer on 19 August 2026, the day after it opened its first Pakistan office. You have until 31 December 2026 to redeem it.

That December date is the single most misreported detail of this story. It is the redemption deadline, not the expiry of the free period. Claim it in November 2026 and your free year runs into November 2027. Miss 31 December 2026 and you do not get it at all.

What you actually get

Students outside the United States receive Google AI Plus, a different and smaller tier than the AI Pro plan American students get. It is still a real subscription, not a dressed-up version of the free Gemini tier everyone already has.

Why Google offered this now

The timing was not a coincidence. Google opened its first local office in Pakistan on 18 August 2026, inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and announced the student offer the next day. Both were part of the same push, and the giveaway is the consumer-facing half of a much longer commercial play.

Google's own numbers explain the interest. The company says it has contributed over Rs 3.9 trillion in economic activity in Pakistan across ten years, supporting more than 960,000 jobs. It has issued 360,000 Career Certificates and trained roughly a million people. Pakistan, meanwhile, is targeting $30 billion in annual IT exports. A generation of students who learn on Gemini is a generation that defaults to Google's stack at work later.

There is hardware behind it too. Google's partners Tech Valley, Allied, and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation run a Chromebook assembly line at NRTC's Haripur facility targeting 500,000 units. Cheap laptops and free AI subscriptions aimed at the same students are one strategy, not two.

How to claim it

• Go to one.google.com/ai-student while signed into a personal Google account, not a school-issued one.
• Select the option for Google AI Plus at no cost for 12 months.
• You will be redirected to SheerID, the third party Google uses to check student status. Enter your name, date of birth, country, institution, and email.
• Upload proof if prompted: a student ID card showing an expiry date, a class timetable, or a tuition receipt. Accepted formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG, and PDF.
• Add a valid payment method. This is required even though nothing is charged during the free year.
• Wait for the review to clear, then AI Plus activates on that account.

The catches worth knowing before you sign up

It auto-renews at Rs 1,400 a month

The card you add at sign-up is charged automatically when the twelve months end. If you do not want to pay, set a reminder for month eleven and cancel. This is the part that turns a free offer into an unexpected bill, and it is easy to forget a year out.

Your institution has to be recognisable to SheerID

Verification is automated first and manual second. Students at large, well-known Pakistani universities generally clear on the first attempt. Smaller colleges, newly established institutions, and campuses that share a name with another school are where rejections happen. The document upload path is the fallback, so make sure your student ID shows a legible expiry date before you start.

Pakistan is in, but the offer is not universal

AI Plus is available in more than 140 markets, with Bolivia, Albania, Canada, Macau, Hong Kong, and Tunisia excluded, plus the United States, where students get AI Pro instead. If you are studying abroad, check which country your account and institution resolve to before assuming this applies to you.

If you already have a Google AI plan

Google One does not stack promotional plans. If you are already on an active paid or promotional Google AI subscription, including one claimed through an earlier student promotion or a developer pack bundle, you will generally need to let it lapse or cancel it before a new free year can start. Check the plan status on your account first rather than claiming and hoping the two merge, because they will not.

The earlier offers are the main source of confusion here. Google ran a 12-month AI Pro student promotion that included 2 TB of storage and reached Pakistan in late 2025, and it closed in most regions between October 2025 and March 2026. Is it worth claiming?

At roughly Rs 16,800 of value for a form and a document upload, yes, if you will use it. The free Gemini tier is already capable, and what AI Plus really buys you is headroom: higher limits so you stop hitting caps mid-session, and 400 GB so storage stops being a consideration. If you are writing a thesis, working through past papers, or handling large PDFs, that headroom matters. If you use AI once a week, the free tier is fine and you can skip the auto-renewal risk entirely.
